Anger is a very complex emotion, but I have been reading a great book about emotional healing with essential oils. It's called "Essential O." ils f or the Mind, Body, Spirit: The Holistic Medicine of Clinical Aromatherapy
I have been trying to find a way to help my "hardest" kids that I work with at school adjust their attitudes and have a better classroom experience.
Let me give a little background for those that don't know me personally. I teach math at the middle school level. Sixth, Seventh and Eighth graders. This is RtI Math. That means Response to Intervention. I don't have special education kids, but I don't have kids that meet grade level requirements either.
These kids are usually behind for 3 reasons.
#1 They do not have good family support at home.
#2 They've moved a lot and have missed key concepts. Not usually due to normal reasons, add #1 to this scenario.
#3 Somehow a concept just hasn't sunk in. These kids move up and "graduate" out of my class quickly. We wish this was all RtI students.
So, since many of my kids have outside-of-school issues, this can lead to feelings of anger, sadness, suffering, disappointment, shame, neglect and despair. There are more aspects of anger, but these are the ones I felt I could help per the information in the book.
Ylang-Ylang is supposed to help regain balance and perspective and help someone to "let go."
Bergamot is top of the list for sadness and it's secondary emotions that I listed after sadness.
These two actually blend quite well together. Ylang-Ylang being a stronger, middle floral note and Bergamot being a lighter, citrus note.
My experiment today was to diffuse this in my room while I was on lunch, for the class that I have after lunch.
I used 1 drop Ylang-Ylang and 3 drops Bergamot.
I had a couple of kids mention that it smelled nice. Which is good, these kids can complain about anything! While I can't say that everyone scored a 100% or even did a lot more work, I can say that they were not contrary acting. Some days it's just an argument about doing anything at all. I was glad to not have that argument.
I will keep using this blend, at least for the afternoon and maybe change it up once in a while. I will update you as well. But I do suggest that if you want to delve deeper in to some emotional healing and in my opinion "Happy is Healthy," then this is the for you! book
ENJOY!
