So glad to work with a company that has a forward thinking plan for sustainabilty and growth for the areas where they source their products.
As you use your oils more often and find what works the best for you and your family, you'll find that having them on hand and ready when you want/need them is a must.
You will also build up an inventory of oils and will be able to readily use or make a blend of oils when you need them. I always keep a few "emergency" oils in my purse so they are with me at all times. Lavender, Peppermint, Slim & Sassy, Terra Shield in the summer and Lemon. DigestZen is also good if you often have stomach issues. My older children also carry a couple of oils with them, as they are not always with me any more. I like to have my oils alphabetized just for ease of finding them. I also always use a cap sticker so the bottle can be identified from the top. You'll find a cap sticker is great if you open more than one bottle at a time and then are not sure which cap goes to which bottle. Sure you can go by smell, but some oils like citrus oils can get tricky. There are many essential oil based products that are helpful too. I keep Deep Blue Rub and Correct X available at all times, along with many others. As you use different products you'll find that it's easy to replace your old medicine cabinet stand by with a more natural product. This doesn't have to happen all at once. I've done it a little at a time. I'm buying at a discount, getting a better, more healthy product and going for a preventative approach with my family's health care. Having these resources on hand has given me the ability to help my family with the everyday small medical issues of life. Scraped knees, small cuts, bruises and stiffness, bug bites and stings, allergies, headaches, upset tummies, sun burns, skin care, mood enhancement and more. Enjoy! Sunshine is a great thing. It makes us actually feel happier by increasing our vitamin D. Your body needs vitamin D for the immune system and many other functions. Obviously be careful when getting your vitamin D in the sun because a sun burn can deplete your body of many micro nutrients and minerals. Another great thing about the body and mind is association. We often associate sunshine with warmth, summer, and summer foods, like citrus and fresh herbs. This association can be very useful when using aromatherapy for moods. Using citrus essential oils and herb oils can often uplift your spirits and brighten your mood. You can try some pre-mixed blends such as Citrus Bliss by DoTerra or a single oil that you like or blend your own. Here are a few that I like to diffuse, especially as I'm looking forward to the season and those smells are not quite naturally in the house yet. 3 drops Wild Orange oil 1-2 drops Peppermint oil 3 drops each Lemon and Lavender oil 5 drops Lemon oil 1 drop Coriander oil 3-5 drops Grapefruit oil 1-2 drops Peppermint oil optional Citrus oils are also great for cleaning and make your house smell great at the same time! Enjoy! Please make sure that you know what you are doing when you apply, inhale or take essential oils internally.
I have used essential oils for 20 years now and I still double check any time I decide to use a new or different oil for a situation. You should triple check if you are suggesting them for someone else or using them with your children. Speaking of children, please dilute essential oils with a carrier oil for children 2 years old and above. I only used essential oils with my infants in a couple of ways: homemade baby wipes and if they were ill. Even then, very, very diluted. You can also apply them, diluted, to yourself and when you hold the infant they will get the aromatic benefits. Lavender is great for this. Please put it someplace where the essential oils cannot get on the baby, especially their face/eyes. You can get great ideas from Pinterest and Googling, but do you know that source? Please check each oil in a blend that you want to try, if you have not experienced each oil on it's own already. If you have any major health concern that you are under a doctor's care for, please do research on that issue. Essential oils help with a lot of situations, but once in a while there are oils that you shouldn't use. You need to know what they are! Once you know what you want to use, make sure there is no issue with any existing medications and tell your doctor what you want to do. There is a good book called Modern Essentials that explains about each oil but also is indexed by health concern and will suggest the oils to use for each one. Thankfully the people at Everything Essential have put that same information into an online resource. For Free!!! This information is from a reliable source and includes warnings and other important information. Enjoy your research! Continuing with the theme that the happier we are in our daily lives, the healthier we are, I'd like to discuss 4 blends from doTERRA that are commonly referred to as the "Mood Oils." These oils are Balance, Serenity, Citrus Bliss and Elevation. While these oils are specifically blended with a desired result in mind and have a lot of science behind them, I am just going to tell you the practical applications that we use them for in our home. Balance is a grounding blend. It really does just that and that alone has so many applications. Do you have a child that often has their mind and heart in the clouds? I do, he's sweet, but a bit out there. Thankfully he LOVES the fragrance of Balance and will wear it like cologne. It helps him to settle down and focus on what he needs to do. It brings balance literally to his thoughts. It is good for attention deficit and hyperactivity. Balance is also great for stress, anxiety, and nervousness. Helping with actual electrical balance of the body, it can bring whole body relaxation. This in turn helps to bring about a healthier body by improving circulation, cellular health and even muscle and joint issues (these being greatly affected by stress and tension.) Serenity is for all things that need calming. I use it when I want a "softer" smelling Lavender blend. I've even used it for allergic reactions when I was out of Lavender. Serenity is great for the evening and before bedtime. Slowing your pace at this time and calming the mind, make for much better sleep and that helps everyone to feel better. Serenity and Balance have commonly been used together, mostly applied to the bottoms of the feet, for an overall calming and balancing effect when someone is stressed and unable to relax. I have done this with my oldest child during finals time and she felt it did help her to calm down when she was working herself up over the tests and her grades. Citrus Bliss is a smooth blend of citrus oils and vanilla absolute. It is uplifting and yet calming blend. Gentle mood uplifter and all around "Happy" fragrance. Like my son, my daughter has her favorite and LOVES the fragrance of Citrus Bliss. She wears it like a perfume and claims it helps with body odor. This is not surprising as it is great for eliminating odors in the air when used as a room spray or diffused in a room. Also a good surface disinfecting spray. Elevation is a pleasing, mellow floral blend. This blend is good for diffusing for depression, fatigue and anxiety. Also massage into neck, shoulders and back for anyone suffering from depression or stress. Also helps to combat jet lag. I like to diffuse this on a spring or summer day when I'm home and just around the house doing whatever. It is a very joyful and uplifting fragrance. Any of these blends can be used in massage or aromatically to help support an overall sense of well being. Enjoy! Spring is finally here (in the mid-west anyway) and I like to get some of that good fresh smell into my home without the pollen (I'm allergic) and into my classroom, where the air temperature is controlled by humidity so we cannot open the windows.
Try diffusing (or adding to a spray bottle of water in a pinch) some of the following to liven up any room of your house or class! Enjoy! |
